How Great Thou Art

Duets is a reality competition show that features famous musical mentors who search for unknown singers to duet with them as they perform in front of a live studio audience. Jennifer Nettles, of country duo Sugarland, is one of these mentors. She chose to work with a singer named John Glosson. Here, Jennifer and John show everyone how much their hard work has paid off with atruly astonishing rendition of “How Great Thou Art.”

Jennifer Nettles has one of the most beautiful and powerful voices in music today, so John definitely had his work cut out for him. Halfway through the song, the way they belt it out while perfectly blending their voices together sent chills down my spine. It’s effortlessly stunning.

“How Great Thou Art” is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Swedish poet Carl Gustav Boberg in 1885. It was ranked second — after “Amazing Grace” — on a list of the favorite hymns of all time in a 2001 survey by Today’s Christian magazine.

Lyrics:

Oh Lord my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made

I see the stars
I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout
The universe displayed

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art
How great thou art

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

And when I think of God
His son not sparing
Sent Him to die
I scarce can take it in

That on the cross
My burden gladly bearing
He bled and died
To take away my sin

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art
How great thou art

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

When Christ shall come
With shouts of acclamation
And lead me home
What joy shall fill my heart

Then I shall bow
With humble adoration
And then proclaim My God
How great Thou art

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

How great Thou art
How great Thou art
